As of May 19th, the second quarter of 2022 has earned 61% of the same six weeks in 2019. The first 19 weeks of 2022 have produced 58% of the result from 2019, and the four-week run rate stands at 53%. Based on these results, the industry is still struggling to find solid footing in the current year’s recovery. As schools let out and summer begins, the box office will need to return to levels closer to 2019 in order for exhibitors to claw their way back to profitability.
