This excellent analysis by Yahoo News Business Insider looks at last weekend’s successful opening of Godzilla vs. Kong both at the box office and on-line. Warner Bros.’ monster debut produced the best opening weekend in theatres for any film released since the dawn of the pandemic while the HBO Max app rose to become the No. 1 app in the Apple app store on the Sunday of its opening weekend. As is the case for most streaming providers, HBO does not report specific viewership numbers for any individual title. Conclusion: the right film can attract audiences to the big-screen for a theatrical experience as well as to TVs and tablets for convenient, at-home viewing.
